Organic Abstraction
This series is my first, begun around 2013. In these oil paintings on wood panels, the world around me is abstracted into form. The abstracted imagery may not be recognizable to the viewer, but I believe the shapes and forms are familiar if only in a subliminal way.
Roaring Springs Series; "Closing your eyes doesn't change anything" (2020-21) 36 x 48 in. Torn paper collage, acrylic, and oil paint on wood panel. 36 x 48 in. (Carefully stored in home of Josh and Christi Jones Golding) An abstraction of a cyanotype made by Nicole Ellis
Balance: Meting Obsession (2016) Oil on wood panel 48 x 60 in. This was part of a series and the title references my obsession with picking cockle burrs from my lawn. The imagery is from a picture of the ground (with cockle burrs) and sliced apples. Can be hung vertically or horizontally
The bearable lightness of being (2015) Oil on wood panel. Collection of Sarah and Jacob Sherwood
Something the mind already knows (2018) Oil on panel 48 x 36 in. Inspired by the stencils and familiar imagery used by Jasper Johns, and sliced apples for the line imagery
